Windy Ridge Hut to Narcissus Hut

Last night it poured and was so windy. Lying in my nest on the kitchen floor, I kept thinking that we were going to have to walk in that.  When we decided to cut our trip short,  I had messaged Rich asking him to book us on a ferry from Narcissus Hut to the Lake St Clair visitor centre, and he’d booked us for 3:30pm.  Given the walk from Windy Ridge was only 3 hours,  we decided to have a lazy, cruisy morning and head off mid-morning.  We packed our stuff,  had breakie, and enjoyed a few rounds of uno before setting off in the rain.  Someone had told me the track was similar to yesterday, so we were all dreading more tree roots. But it ended up being a great,  fast track with virtually no roots. We ended up doing the walk in 2.5 hours and arrived at Narcissus Hut just before 1pm.  We were feeling like 2.5 hours was going to be a long wait for the ferry. I called the ferry person over the radio to let them know we were there.  The guy said, “Hey Kerry” as though he’d been waiting to talk to me all day, and I was his favourite call!  And he offered us a ride on the 1pm ferry if we wanted to leave immediately. Yes, we did!  We high tailed it to the ferry to realise Kel had left her hiking poles at the hut. So she high tailed it back again and the ferry driver very kindly waited for her.  It was a bumpy old ferry ride and we were all just feeling grateful to be on that and not waiting in the hut or walking along the tree roots path along the side of the lake. Back at the Lake St Clair visitor centre we finished our adventure with a hot shower and cups of coffee and remarked on what an amazing trip we’d just had.
