So, I realised that I can actually do that trail l talked myself out of yesterday and today I talked myself back into it. So this afternoon after a lovely half day relaxing in Thredbo, I headed back to Whites River Hut (this time along Schlink Trail with no river crossing), ready to do my walk up and over to Kosciuszko and Dead Horse Gap starting tomorrow. When l got to Disappointment Spur Trail I saw the sign telling me Munyang River Bridge is closed – l hadn’t seen that yesterday. Not sure if I’d have taken a different path anyway because the AAWT arrow pointed me that way.

I arrived just after 6pm, set up camp and had a chat with a guy, David who’s on his way from Thredbo to Tharwa. We swapped notes – he’s just followed the track I’m starting on tomorrow and vice versa. Apparently there are still alot of snow drifts up there. He stepped into one and went straight up to his groin with one leg. He couldn’t get out and needed help from some others. Luckily he was on the main range, so people were around. Note to self, be careful!
I’ve said goodbye to my purple sun hat and replaced it with something I hope will be more practical. Bye bye hat that turned from sun hat to sombrero with every wind gust and which let my hair go crazy chicken out the bottom. Hello sun hat that keeps everything covered (including crazy hair) and is more resilient to wind gusts!
Such a lovely place to camp for a second time. I had my favourite backpacking dinner and had an early night, again falling asleep listening to the river rolling by.
