Day 20: Rest Day Omeo to Big River Saddle

We had a late breakie (hello, worst coffee I’ve ever had – or not had as the case may be), did some washing,  had lunch (everthing seems to revolve around food!) then headed off towards Big River Saddle to camp for the night. As we were leaving Omeo, we came across the Belgian hiker (Nico) I met yesterday, attempting to hitch a ride back to his starting point.  Lucky for him, we were going exactly that way,  so we reorganised the back of the car to fit him in and gave him a lift.  We stopped at Anglers Rest and had coffee and tea and Nico was able to dry out his tent and clothes – that’s the same place we stopped and made lunch last time I did this walk when fires were springing up around Omeo and we had to skip that section and drive to Falls Creek.  Nico showed me a video of the big Big River crossing, and I’m totally glad I made the decision to take the alternate route!

After depositing Nico at his starting point,  we continued on to Big River Saddle, a really lovely place to camp (except no toilet, but my lovely Jubble dug me a hole for the next day).  the weather was bizarre. We could see mist coming up the valley towards us, and it rained on and off. Then there were times when we were in mist, but the sky above us was blue. There was a skerick of coverage, so we interneted, I packed for tomorrow (assuming one night out), we had Chef Jublé veggie noodle soup for dinner, and had an early night.  The thing that drove the really early night was a leech falling onto my phone from the awning above my head!
