Day 13: Dead Horse Gap to Tin Mine Huts 26.5kms, 9 hours, 39k steps, 702m ascent, 0 snakes, 1 deer, 1 hare bathing itself, 4 through hikers

We had a leisurely start to the day, and I didn’t hit the track until just before 11am, after having a cup of tea in the rain with Jubbie at the departure point.  It was a cruisy day with a bit of a climb up to Bob’s Ridge, then mostly downhill to Tin Mine Huts. It was soft under foot and very easy walking. It rained a bit,  but I was all good with my rain jacket and brolly.  I saw a deer on the path. We stared at each other for a good 10 seconds until it worked out it didn’t like the look of me and ran into the trees.

I stopped in at Cascades Hut for a quick look around before continuing to Tin Mine Huts.

One of the bikers I camped with at Mackays Hut had sent me a message saying there were three lovely guys behind me on the trail. I knew from the boot prints on the trail that there were at least a couple of people ahead of me, and I assumed they’d be at Tin Mine Huts. I arrived to find the three guys, and it’s true, they were lovely. There was a father (Scott) and son (Jack) and a friend (Seb). They knew who I was when I arrived and commented on the distances I’ve been doing. Just after I arrived,  another guy, Lachie, turned up, heading northbound. It was really lovely spending a couple of hours chatting in a hut and eating dinner while a huge storm passed through.  After the storm passed, we had an amazing double rainbow and a brumby grazing on the lawn near our tents. What a lovely,  gentle day.
