After a fabulous night’s sleep in a comfy bed we awoke to find an invitation to share Christmas brunch with our hosts. So lovely and generous.

We had a fantastic couple of hours with Freddie, Angie and their family. So much chatting and laughing. Such lovely, welcoming, fun people. We will be forever grateful they invited us to share Christmas morning with them. I’m annoyed with myself for not taking photos! After brunch Freddie showed us around their beautiful property and also his gallery.

We tore ourselves away from Jamieson Valley Retreat and headed towards the start of tomorrow’s walk. We weren’t totally sure we could get there via the “roads” we’d chosen so wanted to check it out. After a short stretch on Jamieson Licola Road (graded gravel smooth) we turned off into Mt Sunday Road. The first half merited the title road. The second half was definitely more track and I reckon we pushed the old Jubbie-mobile to its limits. It was rocky and steep in sections. No way we could have done it in the wet. At one point I hopped out to move a log off the road and came close to stepping on a big black snake on the side of the road – lucky that one knew the appropriate behaviour and quietly slid away. We got down to the location I’d originally planned to start my walk from. There was no coverage and the road back up was the worst of it – I didn’t like the idea of Jubble doing that alone tomorrow so we decided to return about 5kms and set up camp. Before that we had a very non traditional Christmas lunch of sachet Indian food with wraps and a beer!

We returned to the junction of a road that leads up to a helipad which intersects with the AAWT and a lovely little camp spot. Jubble surprised me with a lovely bottle of chilled bubbles and we relaxed and celebrated Christmas before setting up camp. Chef Jublé made a delicious fried rice for dinner and we just chilled and chatted until it was time for bed.
